30 Movies that deserved better actors

In the film industry, casting may make or break a movie, and miscasting can sabotage even the most promising plots. Here, we will examine 30 outstanding films that, despite their gripping storylines, deserved performers that could have made them even better.

1. Orlando Bloom in Kingdom of Heaven

@Reddit

Orlando Bloom plays a crusader in the 12th century in the epic historical drama Kingdom of Heaven, released in 2005. However, Bloom’s performance was not one of the many aspects of the movie that received appreciation. Reviewers were quick to point out that the actor’s performance was only the weakest part of the film, not the worst part.

2. Cary Elwes in Saw

@Reddit

There was the initial Saw movie, which was decent if you’re a horror aficionado before the Saw franchise turned into a gorefest. However, Carey Elwes, the primary actor, is probably the weak point in this eerie movie. Even though Elwes has a lengthy and prosperous career filled with roles far more difficult than this one, he utterly failed in the character of Dr. Lawrence Gordon.

3. Jaden Smith in After Earth

@Reddit

In addition to suffering from the peculiar future dialect they gave him, Smith’s lines are delivered with no heart or vitality. Although it was undoubtedly not his best work, he has since produced even worse work, so hopefully he dismisses After Earth.

4. Hayden Christensen in Star Wars

@Reddit

Although many Star Wars fans dislike the prequel films from the early 2000s, they are generally not as awful as many think they are, that is, unless we’re discussing Hayden Christensen’s portrayal of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, which was pretty much…awful. Christensen essentially ruined everything till the third movie’s credits rolled.

5. Sean Connery in The Hunt for Red October

@Reddit

Here, Connery doesn’t even try to hide his Scottish accent, much less try to pass it off as Russian, even though he’s portraying a Russian role. It’s goofy fun, which would be much more effective if the movie wasn’t a depressing drama.

6. Quentin Tarantino in Django Unchained

@Reddit

Tarantino frequently gives himself minor parts in his films, and occasionally the outcomes are superior to others. However, the outcomes for Django Unchained were just terrible. For whatever reason, he speaks with a terrible Australian accent during his brief appearance in the movie.

7. Johnny Depp in Alice in Wonderland

@Reddit

For Disney’s live-action adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, Johnny Depp ought to have been the ideal Mad Hatter. Unfortunately for him, he’s probably too famous for it now, but he certainly delivered the insane, bizarre energy for which he’s known. The reason his performance was so unbelievably dull was that it had all of the goofiness and bizarre antics for which he is famous.

8. Nicolas Cage in Knowing

@Reddit

Although Nicolas Cage has had a number of bad films in his career, his performance in the 2009 post-apocalyptic movie Knowing might rank among the worst. Similar to his other subpar performances, this one was marred by Nicolas Cage’s accidental humor, dramatic line delivery, and, of course, crazy eyes.

9. Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter

@Reddit

Even Daniel Radcliffe acknowledges that he didn’t like his acting in the early movies, especially the first one, even if Harry Potter made him a fortune and fame. He described some of his performances as “one-note” and “complacent” in an interview.

10. Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman

@Reddit

Al Pacino plays a blind guy in this drama. But Pacino’s performance gave the impression that he was filming Mister Magoo rather than a serious film. In spite of his extravagant behavior, Pacino was able to win an Oscar for this part.

11. Natalie Portman in Thor

@Reddit

With her portrayal of Jane Foster, the love interest in Thor and its sequel, Natalie Portman failed to win over any admirers. However, in this instance, Portman and the writing may both be held equally responsible for the poor performance.

12. Keanu Reeves in Dracula

@Reddit

Anyone watching this movie can see that Reeves is making an effort to learn the British accent but is having difficulty. Regretfully, he concentrated too much on it and neglected all the other aspects that may have made this performance livable.

13. Alex Pettyfer in Magic Mike

@Reddit

Alex Pettyfer’s acting is a complete failure. Pettyfer didn’t give it his all in this film, whether it was because of his lack of filmmaking expertise when he was cast or because of his altercations with actor Channing Tatum on set.

14. Jodie Foster in Elysium

Jodie Foster plays Secretary Delacourt in TriStar Pictures’ Elysium.

With her highly accented parts in films like Nell and Silence of the Lambs, Foster has demonstrated her ability to be a vocal magician, but this time, the accent magic just did not materialize. She tried to make her voice sound more modern, but it didn’t work and instead made her sound strange and out of place.

15. Dane DeHaan in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

@Reddit

Unfortunately, most people thought DeHaan’s portrayal of the title character was too gloomy. Furthermore, Cara Delevingne, the second star, received the same criticism for her flat performance. While bad acting is never good, playing the title role makes it even more embarrassing.

16. Bee Vang in Gran Torino

@Reddit

Even though non-actors played many of the cast’s parts, Bee Vang took the brunt of it all. Vang, who played a teenager in the movie, undoubtedly gave it his all, but his performance veers wildly between extreme underacting and overacting.

17. Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast

@Reddit

When the producers selected Emma Watson, they definitely nailed it. Regretfully, they neglected to inquire about her ability to sing. Even though she had the ideal appearance, her singing was so ridiculously auto-tuned that it was evident when she faced off against someone who could truly carry a tune.

18. Bruce Willis in Oceans Twelve

@Reddit

It would seem quite difficult to make a mistake in a part in which you are portraying yourself, but Bruce Willis did just that when he appeared in Oceans Twelve. Given that Willis was acting exactly like that on camera when he was supposedly portraying himself, he may be insane in real life.

19. Kevin Costner in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

@Reddit

Despite not being a cinematic masterpiece, most people remember this movie as an entertaining action film. Nevertheless, the worst aspect of it turned out to be the actor playing the title role. The decision to cast Kevin Costner as Robin Hood was obviously a bad one. His acting was all over the place, and it’s really horrifying to hear his faux British accent.

20. Topher Grace in Spider-Man 3

@Reddit

We don’t know why comic book star Topher Grace believed he would be a great villain, but his portrayal of Venom in Spider-Man 3 made it clear to everyone that it was a horrible idea. He frequently came out as more petty than malevolent, and Grace struggled to capture the malicious tone.

21. January Jones in X-Men: First Class

@Reddit

Jones, who is well known for her work on Mad Men, played Emma Frost in the movie, and her portrayal was thought to be flat and unfeeling. Nobody knows why such a talented actress couldn’t perform well in a straightforward role, but Frost has never appeared again in a movie.

22. Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman

@Reddit

Stewart played the title character in the 2010 live-action adaptation of the beloved fairy tale, Snow White and the Huntsman. Her performance did not, however, win over the audience. She even sounded “rather too much like a standoffish American girl faking a posh accent,” according to one reviewer, Andrew O’Hehir.

23. Katie Holmes in Batman Begins

@Reddit

Even for a love interest role, Holmes’ portrayal of Rachel Dawes, Batman’s love interest, was widely criticized for being lifeless and bland. In the follow-up, The Dark Knight, Maggie Gyllenhaal took her spot.

24. Chris Tucker in The Fifth Element

@Reddit

Chris Tucker is in this film playing Ruby Rhod, who is easily the loudest character out of this strange bunch. And while some fans love his over-the-top energy, there are also many people who say Tucker is the worst thing about this iconic movie.

25. Jake Gyllenhaal in Okja

@Reddit

Here, Gyllenhaal played zoologist Johnny Wilcox, who’s a strange character. Nonetheless, the actor took the weirdness to a completely new (and unwanted) level. The truth is that, when everything was said and done, he came off as more obnoxious than bizarre.

26. Cameron Diaz in Gangs of New York

@Reddit

Cameron Diaz is widely considered to be the worst thing about this movie. Her terrible accent and lack of chemistry with DiCaprio are cited as some of the main reasons for her poor performance.

27. Kate Capshaw in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

@Reddit

Scott (portrayed by the talented actress Kate Capshaw) was quickly identified as the most obnoxious and hated part of this film. And while some fans have started to come round to her unique brand of awfulness, even the star herself has denounced the character.

28. Sofia Coppola in The Godfather III

@Reddit

Here, Coppola played the role of Mary Corleone originally in the second film, but it’s probably her return in the third movie that people really hate. Critics have described her performance as “hopelessly amateurish” and said that she “comes close to wrecking the movie”

29. Keanu Reeves in Much Ado About Nothing

@Reddit

In this movie, Reeves played the role of Don John, the evil brother of Don Pedro, but unfortunately, his performance was pretty much universally hated. His performance was so bad that he was even nominated for a Razzie award that year.

30. Jennifer Lawrence in X-Men: Days of Future Past

@Reddit

In X-Men: Days of Future Past, Lawrence portrayed Mystique, the blue-skinned shapeshifter, but cinephiles were not digging her performance. Fans just couldn’t understand the characters’s motivations for behaving the way she did, and they placed the blame on both the writing and the actress’ performance.
